When it comes to today’s social media, staying current is a must. That’s why I did some research on what’s trending and what seems to be working when it comes to getting your message to the masses.
Check Out These Top Three Social Media Platforms to Watch in 2021:
TikTok saw exponential growth in 2020 due to quarantine lockdowns that kept users at home. While I’m not suggesting switching up your social media strategy just yet, TikTok’s growth cannot be ignored. In fact, this social channel is on track to hit 1.2 billion active users in 2021 and has already surpassed Facebook in time spent per user. TikTok is now more than just dancing videos. It’s storytelling, community building, and an opportunity to grow awareness with the next generation. With 60 percent of TikTok users between 16 and 24, don’t expect a large portion of donations to come from this audience. However, repurposing videos you’re creating for other channels could increase awareness among older audiences as sharing features on TikTok to other platforms continue to improve.
LinkedIn released a few new features at the end of 2020 that are making the professional networking platform a bit more lively. Features like live video and carousel posts take inspiration from Facebook and Instagram while keeping content focused on thought leadership. LinkedIn is a great way to grow awareness with mid and major level donors. While face-to-face communication has been minimized during the COVID-19 pandemic, LinkedIn is another great way to stay in front of your donors by telling the story of your organization’s impact while allowing them to connect with each other organically.
Clubhouse is an audio-based social media app. It’s somewhat like combining podcasts and Facebook groups with the networking atmosphere of LinkedIn. Currently, the platform is audio only and allows users to jump in and out of live interactive podcasts. If you haven’t yet heard of it, it’s likely because the platform is invite-only. If you’re lucky enough to secure an invite, you can network with other non-profit professionals or simply listen in as thought leaders share best practices and collaborate on how to pivot strategies in the midst of the pandemic. Want to check it out and need an invite? Let me know.
