As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, I wanted to take a moment to point you to Luke 2:13-14. Following is a literal translation:
“In an instant, a great company of the heavenly army appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘The highest glory to God, and upon earth peace among men who are the object of His desire.'”
What a dramatic, Braveheart kind of moment on earth and in the spiritual realm. A massive and sudden gathering of the heavenly army over a poor group of shepherds scared out of their minds; an army giving a shout of praise to God that He, in Jesus, is ushering in the peace that man has longed for with God.
I don’t believe it’s an accident that a multitude of God’s army showed up that night. The fight is being taken to the Enemy. And Jesus will bring in true peace with God, bought with His blood. As Paul says in Romans 5:1, “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
This moment is a powerful shout of an army seeing the victory. It brings Isaiah 9 alive:
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined. For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” (Isaiah 9:2, 6-7 NKJV)
The darkness is being invaded by the Light. The Enemy is going down. And God’s army is giving notice that the works of the devil of sin and death will be rendered void.
And the result is peace. True peace.
I pray this peace over you this Christmas… that you will revel in it and that it will refresh your soul.
