A Dream or a Mirage

The idea of the ‘dream’ life is usually expressed in terms of a big house, the kind of car you want to drive, all the money you could ever want, to do with whatever you want. We often translate that this way: “When I arrive at that point, when I have those things, I will have a sense of joy and security in life that I don’t enjoy without those things.”

But, when you begin to talk to people who have those things, you learn they’ve found that the ‘dream’ is a mirage. It doesn’t provide an inner peace and security that the human heart longs for.

That’s why Jesus warns us that where our treasure is, that’s where our heart is going to be. And if you’re trying to pursue that ‘dream,’ and you’re investing your money into those things, that’s where your heart is going to be and it’s going to pull you away from God.

In this podcast, I talk about the danger of following after this ‘dream’ as a means to true security.
